Fashion Institute of Technology is the best. Parson's New School of Design is a close second. Both have websites with extensive information for prospective students including fees and requirements; so check out their websites. Central Saint Martin's in London England is where all the hottest new designers come from, like McQueen Gallliano, etc. Again, they have an extensive website for prospective students. The Haute Couture schools, especially the Chambre Syndicale de Haute Couture of Paris requires one to be completely fluent in french. The Bunka school in Japan requires a working knowledge of japanese. In Canada Ryerson is an excellent design school, it's in english, and it's less expensive than FIT. Again, they have a website. There are several International Academy of Design campuses across the US; while not as good as FIT, they do teach you everything you need to know about turning your fashion dreams into real clothing.

If you are in high school and your school has a guidance office try to use that to research university and college information, applications, fee schedules, etc. They can also help you understand pre-requisites and pre-qualifications of different schools. You will need a portfolio of designs for all colleges, and not just a portfolio of sketches. They will want to see what you have made, some require three complete outfits. Don't worry, you don't have to have designed and made the patterns, they will accept garments constructed from commercial patterns. They are looking for imagination, colour sense, they are looking for something unique, something that sets you apart from the crowd. All design school require you to make your own sample garments and sewing in an integral part of all design schools. So fire up the old singer and get sewing! Don't be discouraged if you aren't accepted the first time you apply. Try to understand what they want, where you might be lacking and then work on that.

Here's the very best fashion schools in the world: http://www.modeaparis.com/va/ecoles/inde… Haure Couture institute
http://www.csm.arts.ac.uk/ Central St Martin's
http://www.parsons.edu/ Parsons school of design
